Lottery ticket scanner apps compared, including ours
We make Lottoread, so we have a stake in this. Every claim about another app below comes from that app's own public page, as read on 29 October 2026, and is linked. Details change, so check the source before you rely on it.
The short answer
- If you play in one US state and want an authoritative answer, use your state lottery's official app. These apps scan the ticket barcode and check it against the lottery's own system. No third-party app can do that.
- If you want saved tickets checked across games and states, the independent apps below read the numbers printed on the ticket instead. That is a reading, not an official validation.
At a glance
| App | Platforms | Free tier (their claim) | How it checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official state lottery apps | iOS, Android | Free | Scans the ticket barcode against the lottery system |
| WonYet | Web | Free account with photo scans (see their site) | Reads a photo; you can correct the read |
| Chancey | Web / phone | Limited free scans; Pro paid (see their site) | Reads a photo; you confirm before saving |
| Lottery Scanner & Checker | iOS | Free | Photo of the ticket; listing says always double-check |
| Lottoread | iOS, Android | Free scan + manual check; Pro for auto-check / push | Computer vision reads printed numbers; you review them |
What Lottoread does
- Reads draw tickets for supported games (Powerball, Mega Millions, EuroMillions, DACH lotteries, Canada 6/49, and others listed on the site).
- Saves tickets. You can check any saved ticket against the latest draw for free.
- With Pro, saved tickets can be checked automatically when official results publish, with a notification.
What Lottoread does not do
- It is not an official validation. Confirm any win with a retailer or the operator.
- It is not instant. A successful scan often takes on the order of tens of seconds.
- We do not publish an accuracy figure we would stand behind. Review numbers before trusting a "no win" result.
- It does not sell tickets or change your odds.
How to choose
- One state, one ticket at a time → your official state app.
- Many tickets or several games, with a free tier first → compare free allowances on each vendor's site.
- Supported games and tickets you want saved and checked → Lottoread.
FAQ
Can any app tell me for certain that I won?
Only the lottery operator or a retailer can, through the ticket barcode or serial. Independent apps read the printed numbers.
Do scanner apps improve my chances?
No. Draws are random. Scanner apps only help you read and track tickets you already bought.
Does Lottoread work with scratch-offs?
It reads the card face after you scratch it, as a second pair of eyes. Confirm any prize with a retailer.
